The "Framework for Reimagining School Accountability" report, authored by Susan Lyons and Sanford R. Student, critiques the current U.S. school accountability model and proposes new approaches to better address educational inequities. Despite some successes, existing systems have not significantly closed opportunity gaps for marginalized students. This report offers a framework that leverages local and international insights to inspire a new era of school accountability.
The proposed framework identifies two key levers: goal setting and evaluative judgment. It presents five accountability models: centralized ESEA Title 1, accreditation, augmented, locally enacted, and empowerment evaluation. Each model balances local versus centralized control differently, aiming to tailor evaluations to specific community needs and values.
